Jesely

Jesely suffers from Goldenhar Syndrome, a congenital birth defect which involves deformities of the face and usually includes microtia, eye deformities, and other facial deformities, usually only affecting one side of the face. Jesely’s family could not afford her medical treatments and they were very grateful to find Fresh Start and for Jesely to receive all of her treatments at no-cost.

Jesely, a 12-year old from Tijuana, received her first reconstructive surgery during the November 2011 Surgery Weekend. At that Surgery Weekend, Fresh Start volunteer surgeons Dr. Morton and Dr. Ostrow performed reconstructive surgery on her eye.

Jesely received her second reconstructive surgery on her eye by Dr. Morton during the May 2012 Surgery Weekend. During the most recent July Surgery Weekend, Jesely received her third reconstructive surgery – in total, Jesely has received $71,050.93 in donated medical care from Fresh Start’s volunteer medical professionals!

The next step for Jesely will be braces to begin the process of aligning her jaw. Her treatment plan will continue and she is well on her way, optimistic about the future and full of gratitude.  Jesely told Fresh Start, “I want to thank everyone for helping me, it means so much!”

While Fresh Start’s programs provide a comprehensive medical plan for all of our patients, we are excited to announce that Jesely will also be receiving a boost of confidence through her very own make-over compliments of Bria Flores and Shampoo Too  in Solana Beach. This make-over will include a hair and make-up tutorial for Jesely and will give her some much-needed confidence and self-love. And Jesely will also be receiving a trip to Legoland!

Everyone here at Fresh Start is excited to see Jesely continue to grow and develop thanks to our medical programs as well as through the support of our community partners like Shampoo Too. Fresh Start’s Surgery Weekend Program provides medical care for  kids just like Jesely, including, Jackline, Jonathan, and many other young boys and girls who have nowhere else left to turn to receive the medical care that they so desperately need to improve their health, self-esteem, and to reach their goals. Please support Fresh Start and our Surgery Weekend Program!
