Carmen is a Fresh Start patient from Vista who first came to Fresh Start in 2007. Carmen suffers from Amelogenesis imperfecta, an inherited tooth development disorder where the teeth are covered with thin, abnormally formed enamel which causes the teeth to appear yellow and become easily damaged. Carmen and her family could not afford the costly dental procedures to fix her smile – Carmen told Fresh Start, “My teeth are in very bad condition, but I have faith that one day I will be able to smile without fear. My biggest dream is to have a beautiful smile.”

Fresh Start is making Carmen’s dream come true – since Carmen began receiving treatments from Fresh Start in 2010, Carmen has been to over 15 dental appointments and has received over $20,000 in free dental procedures from Fresh Start’s volunteer dental professionals. Carmen currently has braces and she will continue to receive dental care from Fresh Start to strengthen her tooth enamel and give her the beautiful smile she has always dreamed of. Recently, Carmen was even featured on Fox 5 San Diego, showcasing Fresh Start’s wonderful work for National Children’s Dental Health Month.
