Happy 2012 from all of us at Fresh Start Surgical Gifts! As we prepare for a great new year with our next Surgery Weekend only about a week away, now is a perfect time to look back on all that we accomplished in 2011:
- Fresh Start provided 1,473 medical treatments to 397 patients!
- Over 70 patients received intensive reconstructive surgeries
- Over 200 patients received dental treatments
- Over 25 patients received speech therapy services
- Over 50 patients received laser treatments
- Fresh Start volunteers provided $1,814,512.20 in donated services, facility use, and equipment!
- Our volunteers included plastic surgeons, nurse practitioners, medical assistants, orthodontists, dental hygienists, scrub techs, and many other medical and non-medical volunteers.
Here is a look back at just a few of the almost 400 patients that Fresh Start helped transformed during 2011:
Daniel was attacked by a dog as young child which amputaed his earand left him with extreme scarring. In 2011, Daniel received surgery on his ear, face, and near the eye. Although Daniel still requires futuresurgeries, he has come a long way from 2007 when he first began receiving treatments from Fresh Start – read about his journey in a previous blog post.
Brittany suffers from craniosynostosis and in 2011 Brittany received surgery on her scalp, nose, cheek, and eyelid. Brittany has now completed the Fresh Start program and is on her way to a happy and health future! Read more about Brittany’s journey with Fresh Start in a previous blog post.
Nicole was born with a large hemangioma on her lip which left her with a battered self-esteem. After receiving treatments from Fresh Start for over ten years, in 2011 Nicole received her final medical treatments which included scar revision on her lip and permanent tattooing.
